Explore The Cleveland Metroparks This Winter
With the glitter of the holiday season packed away, the short gray days of Cleveland in January stretch out before us. Being more active is probably on most people’s list of new year resolutions. But with the global pandemic still in full swing, a trip to the gym may not be feasible. And working from home and exercising in the same space can be uninspiring. Lucky for us, the Cleveland Metroparks has thousands of acres and over a dozen, reservations to hike, walk, and explore this winter. So when you are tired of being cooped up in the house, take a look at a few of the best areas to visit.
Reservations –
The Cleveland Metroparks reservations are stunning spaces to take in nature. They offer different activities throughout the year, including:
- Hiking
- Walking
- Horseback Riding
- Archery
- Backpacking
- Golfing
Pack a picnic in the warmer months and enjoy a meal outside. Bring your sled or tube for a day of winter fun sledding down rolling hills. Or enjoy some time at the beach no matter the season on the shores of beautiful Lake Erie. Snap amazing photos of waterfalls, the city skyline, or even rare plants at these reservations in the city and surrounding neighborhoods. Learn more about them here.
Only In Winter –
Some things can only be enjoyed when there is a nip in the air. Tobogganing at the Strongsville Chalet is one. Two chilled ice chutes are primed with seven hundred feet of tobogganing excitement. The chutes run throughout the winter snow or no snow, weather permitting. This year reservations are required. Find hours of operation and more information here. Enjoy this experience with friends and family now through the beginning of March!
When the snow starts to accumulate in and around Cleveland, the Metroparks offers snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Rentals are available for both of these winter activities.
Bundle up and breathe the crisp air this season in some of Cleveland’s most striking locations. The Metroparks even have monthly events for children to learn about different animals, birdwatching for adults, and hikes in various nature centers and parks. Find a list and ways to participate here.
We hope that you get a chance to roam the Cleveland Metroparks now and all year long!
