Visit These Amazing Cleveland Landmarks
The beautiful city of Cleveland and its city skyline is a sight to behold. Nestled along the Great Lake Erie, with bustling neighborhoods and dynamic downtown, people come to visit for many different reasons. Some come to take in a football, basketball, or baseball game. Others might be on a work trip. Families travel here to catch up with loved ones and friends. No matter the reason for the journey, here are a few Cleveland landmarks you don’t want to miss.
The Terminal Tower
The Terminal Tower is an iconic fifty-two-story city landmark located in the heart of downtown Cleveland. It was the tallest, and arguably grandest, building in the state before the Key Tower building claimed its spot in nineteen ninety-one.
Originally the Terminal Tower was an office space for the Cleveland Union Terminal, a city rail station. Today the building is home to not only work areas but nearly three hundred apartments.
The Tower lights up the night in festive colors during the Christmas season and other holidays like St. Patricks Day. If you are lucky enough to be in town for a Brown, Guardians, or Cavaliers game, you may notice this Cleveland landmark decked out in team colors.
Visitors can ride the elevators forty-two stories to the observation deck. From this height, it is reported that on a clear and bright day, one can see up to thirty miles stretching from the city.
The West Side Market
Since nineteen twelve, Clevelanders have loved shopping at the West Side Market. With its one hundred and thirty-seven-foot tall clocktower and stunning vaulted ceilings, it is a true Cleveland landmark.
With one hundred vendors selling a wide variety of tasty food items, it is as lively now as it was when it was newly built.
On a trip to the West Side Market, shoppers will be able to find the following items:
- Baked Goods
- Fresh Seafood
- Dairy
- Meats & Poultry
- Prepared Foods
- Specialty Items
- Fruits & Vegetables
- Spices
- Oils
- Nuts
After a busy morning or afternoon of shopping, the West Side Market Cafe offers a breakfast and lunch menu to fill hungry bellies and a place to relax for tired customers.
The Cleveland Metropark Zoo
Spend a day with the monkeys, zebras, and elephants by roaming the one hundred and eighty-three acres of the Cleveland Metropark Zoo. Here guests can explore the different areas of the Zoo, including:
The African Elephant Crossing is an open-air setting that allows visitors to see these magnificent creatures. A gated crossing is a highlight where the elephants move freely from one designated area to another.
Cuddly koalas perch in eucalyptus trees indoors and out all year round in the Australian Adventure section of this Cleveland landmark. Kangaroos, wallabies, and farm animals are more attractions to take in.
In the Rainforest, see hundreds of animals from the Americas, Asia, and Africa. This area also houses thousands of plants and a twenty-five-foot waterfall. The free-flight aviary has fifteen different bird species flying overhead, sloths, and even orangutans, including a two-year-old!
The Primates, Cats, and Aquatics area has snow leopards, lemurs, gorillas, and more unique animals to learn about and see. Cats of differing sizes and species are another part of this exhibit, as well as exotic examples of both salt and freshwater aquatic species. During the summer months, be sure to keep an eye out for the Zoo’s tortoises!
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
See artifacts from rock legends, R&B superstars, funk artists, and hip-hop idols at Cleveland’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. View the celebrity’s signatures in the Signature Gallery. Get Back to Let it Be a Beatles exhibit, plus a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers exhibit, are now open to the public.
