In 1860, Chinese Americans began to leave the West Coast looking for new opportunities and cities to relocate to. Some of those adventurous souls chose Cleveland. Today the area is known as AsiaTown and is located east of downtown. Over time, AsiaTown has become more diverse and grown to include Korean and Vietnamese populations and businesses. Filled with culture, shops, and restaurants, let’s take a look into this area!
The Restaurants
From sushi to pho, lo mein to Korean BBQ, your taste buds will be excited and delighted! AsiaTown restaurants have tried and true favorite menu items and some dishes that might be a brand new treat for diners. Here are a few spots to grab a bite to eat on your next visit:
Superior Pho has a large selection of its namesake. Choose pho with brisket, chicken, meatballs, and more. Or enjoy their appetizers, combination meals, and house specialties. The Shops
Asia Plaza has a variety of shops, eateries, and merchandise. A flower shop and jewelry store just to name two! The next time you are in the area stop by, 2999 Payne Avenue #204A Cleveland, Ohio 44114, and explore this AsiaTown shopping center.
Asian Town Center is home to “One of the largest Asian Supermarkets in Ohio, authentic Asian restaurants, shops, offices, a dance studio, and much more all surrounded by beautiful landscaping, ornamental iron fences, and Koi Ponds.” Now that sounds like a Cleveland must-see! Find out more here.
Cleveland Asian Festival
Sadly because of COVID-19, this year’s festival had to be canceled, but according to AsiaTown Cleveland, there are plans for a 2021 festival. Their website explains, “This annual volunteer-run festival highlights Cleveland’s AsiaTown and the diversity of Asian culture in Northeast Ohio each May, honoring Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. The festival features live entertainment with dozens of performances, a World Marketplace with food, artisan goods and other vendors, a Health Pavilion, activities and games, fashion show, and pop dance competition.” This is something to keep in mind for next year!
